I'm Sasha Mihajlovic

I am a British full-time oil painter, exploring figurative, landscape and still life subjects. I often work from life and look for the visual poetry and hidden qualities in the oil paint, colour and subjects. My art inspires people, so I am delighted to welcome you on my website.

Through my work I try to articulate a visually compelling and thought provoking comment on the human experience, focusing on the profound qualities rather than representation. I explore that through observation, the rich oil paint applications, bold gestures, expressionist mark-making and the investigative use of colour. My approach is a response to a direct experience, combined with the awareness of both the abstract and physical values of the paint.

As a result my art does not prescribe but rather directs a viewer to their own experience. I work from life, memory and everyday sketches, welcoming commissions along the way.

I live and work in London, UK. After studying architecture in Belgrade, I immigrated to Britain in 1988, received the UK nationality a few years later and practised as an architectural illustrator until 2010. Then, between 2011 and 2013 I completed A Levels in oil painting and life drawing at the Leicester FE College and ever since have been working as a painter. I am currently undergoing an intensive course with one of the UK's most distinctive painters Craig Jefferson.
